Melissa's ride

Story

As you probably know, I started riding again 2 years ago and completed the 'Ascent' women's ride in April 2016 (100km ride in the Dandenongs). I registered to complete Amy's Gran Fondo last year, but as we moved house I wasn't able to train. I've transferred my registration and will be riding it this year instead!

Riding on the roads, I am always conscious of getting home safely to my family. The Amy's Gran Fondo is a 120km challenge ride around Lorne. This ride is named after Amy Gillet, an Australian cyclist who was killed whilst training. The Foundation named in her honour are aiming to raise at least $100,000 to invest in educational program initiatives to create a safer environment for riding. Please support the Amy Gillet Foundation by sponsoring me to complete this ride. Any contribution you can make will help achieve the aim of zero bike rider fatalities.

Thank you.

Amy Gillett Foundation

The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
