This year I took up road cycling for the first time, and the hobby has already grown into a passion. I regard it a privilege to be fit enough to go out on the roads and exercise with a good group of friends. However, it is important to recognise that we riders are not alone on the roads - and serious accidents between the different users happen far too often.

I am passionate about helping the Amy Gillett Foundation create a safer environment for all bicycle riders and help improve traffic flow for all road users. Did you know that over 40 people are killed and over 10,000 bike riders are seriously injured in Australia each? I am taking part in the fundraising challenge leading up to the Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo event on 17 September to help the AGF raise at least $100,000 to invest in educational program initiatives to create a safer environment for riding.

Any contribution you can make will help the AGF achieve its vision of zero bike rider fatalities.

    Amy Gillett Foundation

The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
